Windflower Equine Therapy Center

Spring 2024

Lubbock, TX

Healthcare and Agriculture

Equine therapy uses horses in the process of physical and mental healing. The Windflower, named after the historic trail at Lubbock Lake Landmark made of wood planks, draws inspiration for its raised wood floors. However, horses and riders are more comfortable on sand or dirt surfaces. To address this, retaining walls are used to create elevated floors filled with sand and dirt, ensuring comfort for all users.

The Windflower aims to create a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for patients, staff, and horses while addressing their unique needs. The building design also prioritizes privacy for patients and staff. Located within the flood zone of Lubbock Lake Landmark, the structure is raised on stilts to prevent flooding.
